What To Expect After Your Brow Lift Procedure

As people age, the eyebrows and surrounding areas can start to sag. A brow lift raises your eyebrows, which improves the appearance of your forehead by diminishing the appearance of wrinkles. The brow lift may also enhance the appearance of your eyes by eliminating excess skin above your eyelids. It may also help eliminate deep lines and wrinkles between your eyes. Here are some things cosmetic surgeons want their patients to know about what to expect after a brow lift procedure.

Immediately Following The Brow Lift

Because you will have your brow lift in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting, you will not stay in the hospital overnight. You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home because you will not be allowed to drive following your procedure. You will notice some inflammation and discoloration on your forehead and around your eyes; however, this is normal and expected. Both of these effects will resolve in a couple of weeks. The doctor will also wrap your forehead with a surgical dressing immediately following your brow lift.

Before you go home, your cosmetic surgeon will tell you when you can resume your normal activities such as exercising and going back to work. Your vital signs, including your blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate will be monitored while you are in the recovery room, and you will be given a light snack prior to discharge.

When You Get Home

You will need to keep the surgical dressing on your forehead until the following day, when you can remove it. You will also need to wear a special headband for support for another week or so. The surgeon will also advise you to sleep with your head elevated on a couple of pillows for about a week to reduce inflammation.

Cold compresses should also be applied to the affected area for at least the first couple of days to further minimize bruising and swelling. While you can take a shower the day after your brow lift, you'll need to make sure that a forceful stream of water doesn't spray on your surgical site; however, you should let some soapy warm water rinse off your incisions. After showering, gently dab your forehead with a soft towel and then apply the topical medication given to you by the doctor.

If you experience an increase in pain, swelling, bleeding, or drainage from your incisions, or if you develop a fever, call your doctor right away. These may be signs of an infection that will need to be evaluated and treated as soon as possible.
